One day, many moons ago, just before Christmas, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward came into our former Boston location to buy a mink coat for Joanne. She found one she loved but the sleeves were too long. That was no problem for us, though. They waited in the store while my father, Jack, altered the length of the sleeves. He was a master furrier. When the work was done, Paul took out his checkbook and just as he was finished writing out the check, looked up at my father —with his iconic big blue eyes —and said, “Do you need to see ID?” And the rest is history…
